Just One Chapter

10.12.24

Dear You,

As the school year winds down and the textbooks are put away, I want to remind you of something that truly matters: you are so much more than your results.

Your results? They don’t define you.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to try hard and aim high. But those numbers on a report card don’t show the full picture. They don’t measure your kindness, your sense of humour, or the way your smile can light up a room. They don’t capture the moments you helped a friend, stood up for what was right, or worked hard at something even when it felt impossible.

Results don’t define you. They’re just one small part of your story. What truly defines you is how you treat others, how much you care, and the way you pick yourself up after a stumble.

What truly matters is who you are.

Are you curious about the world? Do you dream big, even if those dreams seem a little wild? Do you treat people with respect, and do you bounce back when life throws you a curveball? Because those are the things that will carry you far in life—farther than any test score or award ever could.

And guess what? You don’t have to have it all figured out. Nobody does. You’re allowed to change your mind (again and again). And you are allowed to love them all. They will all have a different chapter in your story, play a different part.

Love one thing today, then discover something completely new tomorrow. Life isn’t about sticking to a rigid plan—it’s about the journey, the twists and turns, and finding the things that make your heart sing. Want to change your mind a hundred times? Go for it. Choose a new career? Great. Take a detour on your path to what makes you happy? I’ll cheer you on the whole way.

For me, it’s waking up excited because I get to do something I love every day. That’s what I hope for you—not a perfect score, but a life filled with passion and purpose.

So, as you finish this school year, know this: I’m proud of you. Not because of what’s written on a piece of paper, but because of the person you’re becoming. That’s what matters most.

With love,

Every Parent
