Perfect? Not a chance
Perfect? Not a chance.
Remember the first day of reception, when their tiny handheld yours so tightly.
Hold that hand again, just for a moment, as you walk this path one more time.
As these are the days.
It’s the end of another school year.
And whilst we take in the big moments, the finishes, the big lasts – its important to take it all in.
Not just the Year 12 Graduation.
Not just the last primary school Christmas concert.
Not the last Kindy moment before your other piece of you enters the real school world.
As each moment is big. Each finish is big. For you, for them – for us all.
One day, years from now, you won’t be rushing to leave work early to get snacks for the Christmas Concert.
You won’t have forgotten to order the school yearbook.
You won’t be eagerly awaiting to see which class they have drawn for the next year.
One day, years from now, you won’t spend hours writing Christmas cards sticking a candy cane on the front, hoping you have not forgotten someone.
You won’t be collecting the Christmas craft, hoping the cotton ball beard of Santa doesn’t fall off on the walk to the car.
And you won’t be writing on an oversized card for the teacher.
But I promise you, one day, you won’t miss the exhaustion. But you will miss these times.
As in the midst of the overwhelm, the to do lists, the chaos, here is your reminder – none of it needs to be perfect.
Take the chance to walk your child to school one last time this week.
Even if they roll their eyes or say they’re too old for it now.
Talk about the little things—like the sticks they used to collect or the artwork they carefully carried home.
Laugh together about their sports days or how they brought their special touch to every nativity play.
Tell them how proud you are of all they’ve accomplished and how excited you are for the next chapter of their journey.
So again - Remember the first day of reception, when their tiny handheld yours so tightly.
Hold that hand again, just for a moment, as you walk this path one more time.
You’ve done an amazing job.
